“It was love at first sight, at last sight, at ever and ever sight.”
(Vladimir Nabokov, Lolita)

[RO]

Tu crezi in dragoste la prima vedere?

The Lolita style is left to its own imagination. Lolita has a romantic side and a sexy, provocative but ingénue one, or even classic or, why not, vintage. One thing is for sure, you can’t really define this fashion style because is truly particular in every way possible. So, you cannot frame it based on some rules, that’s why I chose to play with different textures, colors, accessories and… Calvin Klein Ck Bubble Gum lip gloss, bought from TK Maxx (London).

Do you believe in love at first sight? I do! The pink skirt, the one that I bought from New Yorker was, is and will be one of my favorite pieces of clothing from my wardrobe. As soon as I saw it, I felt like the designer read my thoughts and created it especially for me. I saw it on pink and light grey, which I regret even today that I didn’t buy. I knew that it would be difficult to match it with something from my closet, but I thought “I make something up!”

So I integrated it in my daily outfits for a soft look and I chose to wear it with a beige wool sweater (ZARA) and a pair of over the knee beige socks (H&M). In other occasions, I wore it with a black sweater (bought 100 years ago from Kenvelo), black stockings 40 den and black boots.

The main characters of the Lolita style drink tea, look at the carousels or go out on a picnic. For the photo shoot I chose to bring a lollypop, my favorite lip gloss and to go out in the nature just to enjoy the beautiful day.

Therefore, let your imagination go wild and “invent” looks to represent your way out to the big Alter Ego!

ATENA, MALIA, CHANIA, RETHYMNO, HERAKLION, HERSONISSOS, AGIOS NIKOLAOS, IERAPETRA, SITIA…you name it! Been there, done that! (foto Crete Travel).

Le-am numit pe toate, nu-i asa?

Initial, am aplicat pentru un job in America prin programul pentru studenti “Work&Travel”, insa, spre fericirea mea nu am mai ajuns acolo. In schimb, banii destinati pentru State au fost directionati spre un job de ajutor de ospatar in Grecia, Insula Creta, Malia la Hotelul Malia Bay Hotel&Bungalows **** Jobul s-a dovedit a fi oribil la inceput, insa pofta vine mancand si a inceput sa imi placa! Nicicum pentru jobul in sine, ci pentru oamenii cu care am lucrat, atat studentii romani si unguri veniti prin acelasi program, cat si colegii de diferite nationalitati pe care i-am cunoscut in hotel. Ce-i drept, Directorul General, Maitre si Head Receptionist erau groaznic de severi!

CRISTINA & MONICA! Impreuna, am format The Powerpuff Girls J Glumesc!

In Malia le gaseai toate!

15th OF JUNE – 01st of OCTOBER 2011: THE CRAZIEST SUMMER I’VE EVER HAD!

I swear I do not even know where to start! With the fact that it was the most intense experience of them all?! That it was the beginning of the maturity? That I met all those different nationalities? That I switched from the regret of being there to the regret that I left? That I got out of all those horrible situations, in which I never thought I would get into? That I met some beautiful people and we became friends for a long time? That I visited all that I could and I met Greek people with the good and the bad? That I used to party 5 nights in a row, out of 7 per week? That the atmosphere was insane that I didn’t care that the next day my shift would start at 7 o’clock? That I haven’t spent a dime on a drink while I was there?

TOUGH ONE!

Crete Island is known for the complex history, those places “talk” even today about those good old times. Being the biggest Greek island, I admit that I got lucky to visit it all, for 3 and a half month (the beautiful places described on those travel agency’s flyers, but also the darkest parts of it).

ATHENS, MALIA, CHANIA, RETHYMNO, IRAKLIO, HERSONISSOS, AGIOS NIKOLAOS, IERAPETRA, SITIA…you name it! Been there, done that! (foto Crete Travel). I wore only casual clothing: dozens of casual and sexy dresses, a bunch of skirts and casual t-shirts with statement jewelry, roman sandals during the day and stiletto during the night. I had with me 7 different swimsuits and a chic hat to protect me from the sun.

#myfavourites: RETHYMNO (is a beautiful city and I wouldn’t hesitate in moving there anytime), HERSONISSOS (the perfect beach, the vibrant night clubs, especially NEW YORK DAY&NIGHT BEACH CLUB and STAR BEACH), HERAKLION (the port where I had my heart broken when I got in the ferry at the departure), ATHENS (the port where I felt fear for the unknown at the arrival), CHANIA (the port + the old city – #beautiful, the high prices at their taverns – #notthatmuch), AGIOS NIKOLAOS (the perfect day spent with my friend, Monica, for her birthday), IERAPETRA & SITIA (beautiful views). I named all of them, right?

Initially, I applied for a job in USA due to the “Work&Travel” Program for Students, but, I never got there. In exchange, the money meant to be for the States, got redirected for a job as waiter’s assistant in Greece, Crete Island, at Malia Bay Hotel&Bungalows **** At the beginning, the job sucked big time, but, in time, I got used to it! Not for the job description, but for the people I worked with: the foreign students (romanian & hungarian) and the colleagues from all over the world. The General Manager, the Maitre and the Head Receptionist were insanely severe! Like the stupidest severity of them all!

Even though the agency told me that there will be someone at the airport to claim me, it wasn’t the case! Therefore, I called at the reception and I told them that I was in the port already, even though I had very few cents on my phone! They had no idea who was I and what I was supposed to do there. Finally, the things have cleared up and they sent a Greek bus driver to take me to the hotel. He couldn’t speak English, but the only thing could say was: “Adriana? Malia Bay?” Yes, please!

After I was told the job description, they checked me into a room with 4 beds and a bathroom, quite nice, across the hotel. That night I met the other colleagues: the animation team (5 italians), the sous-chef (Janos-Romania), the other waiter’s assistants (David-Romania, Tomas-Lithuania), the Greek staff from the kitchen (Hello, Panagiotis! Hello, my little friend!) and… CRISTINA & MONICA! Together, we were The Powerpuff Girls J I’m kidding! We lived under the same roof, we shared so many memories, we had the same job and the same complaints regarding the staff and the restaurant, that we got close enough and we became best friends ever since! This is one of the best things that I will always be grateful for, after the experience in Greece.

Being joyful all the time, an Italian, English and French speaker, the General Manager decided to promote me for a whole month as bar assistant at the Pool Bar. There, I met Zacharias (Greece), Nikos (Greece) and Jane (Germania) who taught me to fix cocktails, how to get the tourists to spend money on real drinks rather than the ones at the all-inclusive (OUZO, RAKI, white wine, red wine).

MALIA is the “Ibiza of Greece”. The center of the town becomes alive at night, due to the clubs, the taverns opened all day and all night, the pool bars, the souvenir shops, the clothing shops and other stuff. You would find absolutely anything on these streets, anything! If you wanted to get a tattoo at 5 AM, if you wanted a Tiffany&Co watch (false, of course), if you wanted to buy eccentric souvenirs, cookies, pita gyros straight from the source, to rent a scooter, to relax into a hammock, to eat a cheeseburger at McDonald’s in the middle of the night, then to go back into the club (Apollo, Malibu, Safari Club, Bar One, Cloud 9, Zig Zag, Candy Club and many more), if you wanted a foam party, if you wanted a RnB Club, to dance on a commercial music or Rock music, if you wanted them combined, or just to watch a sports game with your mates drinking beer…you name it! In Malia you would find them all! Together and separately!

The experience in Greece was wonderful from all points of view! I experienced the seen and the unseen of the all-inclusive, I’ve met all kinds of people (the tourists and the staff), I’ve learnt how to deal with difficult situations at work, I took part of the hard work of the staff to deliver the 4 star hotel that Malia Bay Hotel&Bungalows is meant to be.

I recommend the experience to all the students that have access to the Work&Travel Program!

15 PASI PENTRU A INVINGE AUTOSABOTAREA

[RO]                                                                                                                                                       [EN]

In fond, este vorba despre tine si despre viata ta!

#7. Crede in tine! Chiar daca acum ti-e greu, cauta metode de a-ti intari increderea in propria persoana!

Pune-ti memento in fiecare dimineata! Reciteste fraza in pauza de masa! Orice functioneaza pentru tine!

Nu trisa cad oar e in defavoarea ta!

#10. Invata!

Cu totii am avut, cel putin o data in viata, o pasa proasta in care parca totul parea negru.

Self-sabotage is the behavior which leads to bad results you don’t even want. The lucky ones observe them at the right time, but they still engage in the wrong actions, therefore they are bullying themselves. If you wish to eliminate the self-sabotage from your life, you can do the following:

#1. Admit the fact that you are self-sabotaging! Be a man! (Tipatescu via Zoe, “A lost letter” by I.L.Caragiale). Accepting it is the first step towards healing (just to be radical).

#2. Write on a piece of paper the facts! Think about the past year and write the specific actions that you sabotaged: the job, the personal life, friends, family, money and so on.

#3. Admit that you are the sole responsible for your thoughts and your actions! Yes, the other people, a specific situation, a certain context, a coincidence can influence the imagination, the thoughts and the actions. When you’ll control your mind 100%, you’ll stop blaming others for your failures.

#4. Make a plan! This one will beat every wrong turn.

#5. Share with someone you trust! You’ll have more courage, you’ll be much more motivated when you share the plan with someone you trust: a friend, a brother/sister/cousin, the life partner or even a mentor.

#6. Put effort in it! After all, it’s you and your life!

#7. Believe in yourself! Even though it’s hard, search a method to do it!

#8. Promise from this moment on, that you’ll stop bullying yourself! You can even write it on a paper and sign it. It will mark the moment! You can put post-it in your house (via #BeingMaryJane)! Set the alarm every morning! Read it in the lunch break! Whatever works for you!

#9. Celebrate the efforts that pay off! You deserve to celebrate every step of the way in which you have succeeded! If you celebrate it more often, you become motivated even more and the things will get easier. All you have to do is to be honest with yourself! Don’t cheat!

#10. Learn! Read whatever inspires you and keeps you focused!

#11. Reject all forms of negativity! You’ll still think in the wrong way, but, in time, you’ll become positive! Step by step! We all have that one negative friend! Don’t be that one! Be the one who changes him/her!

#12. Go with the flow! Open your mind toward new possibilities and take advantage of the opportunities around you! Think outside the box!

#13. Consider to talk with a specialist! If you start to back off and you don’t have the strength to do it, search a simple solution. It may be a counselor, a mentor or even a person who experienced it before.

#14. Be persistent! It’s the only way. If you stop, you’ll fail and the start will be twice as harder.

#15. Renew your promise every other day!

I know it may sound weird and the list above is too long! But every step of the way is tested. We all had, at least once in a lifetime, a bad day in which everything seemed the worst ever. Taking it step by step, you’ll be amazed to see who you became and you’ll see the world in a different way! Because you’ve changed!

Stop bullying!

[RO]                                                                                                                                                       [EN]

#1. Daca iti tai parul mai des, iti va creste mai repede – WRONG!

Taierea varfurilor despicate si arse nu afecteaza in mod direct cresterea parului in lungime.

The radical change of the haircut or even the cut of a few inches, may involve some things you have to know before you do it. I think one of the most terrible nightmares are the ones with a bad haircut. Dyeing your hair at the salon is already a soft spot, not because of the hairdresser, but because of the brands and the way they react at your hair, especially when it comes to blonde hair. One can never know!

In the following sentences, I will tell you some of the myths about hairstyles that I thought were for real. And I will tell you why is that!

#1. If you cut your hair more often, it will grow faster – WRONG!

Cutting your split ends has nothing to do with growing your hair longer, faster. The ends don’t affect the follicles. Cutting the ends is mandatory for the health of the hair itself, but it grows in the usual rhythm.

#2. You set a #memento every 2 months to go to tha salon – WRONG!

Just give it time! Give your hair time to grow between every other haircut and do not schedule it the well-known term: 6 to 8 weeks! You’ll have split ends around 3-4 months, but only if you took care of it (weekly hydration treatment, the use of the hairdryer at least at 20cm <or not using it at all>, the argan fluid before and after the use of the hair straightener or the curling iron). Schedule a meeting when your hair needs it, not sooner! You’ll even save some money!

#3. You expect it to be just like in the magazine – WRONG

Choose a haircut according to your hair type. The photo you are looking at at that magazine it’s probably photoshopped and the model probably has a tone of styling products! Before cutting your hair, have a chat with your stylist and tell him/her if you hair is easy to style, or not! Otherwise, you’ll end up having lots of “bad hair days” attempting to fix it every morning.

#4. You wash it before you go at the salon – WRONG

If you know you have an appointment the next day, do not wash your hair because most of the stylists wash you anyway before cutting it for precision. It’s a win-win situation – they charge you all inclusive, you get a flawless haircut, because it’s easier to discipline a clean hair!

#5. Short hair should be groomed more often – WRONG

In case you choose a bob haircut, you have to consider that you’ll pay attention to it more often, but not that often! Lots of girls shorten it just because they think that it’s care free! That’s just wrong! In order to look good, the hair should be perfect at the edges, for a great look. Isn’t that you want even for the long hair? The long hair it’s difficult to fix because weights more! Stop thinking about what’s next, and pick a haircut to love! Care about your image at all costs!

For example, before a get the sexy bangs (march 2015), everyone told me that it will be hard to fix it, that you have to depend on the hair straightener, that it looks weird if every inch of it isn’t perfect, that I will touch it every minute of every day just to get it right, that I will get a greasy hair in no time, and so on.

  • YES, I touch it every minute of every day, but I do it because I like it, I even think that it’s cute.
  • NO, I don’t depend on the hair straightener every morning.
  • NO, it doesn’t look funny when it’s windy..
  • YES, it’s easy to fix it because I just brush it in the morning, even without tha hair straightener, just with a styling product.

WHAT DO YOU THINK? HAVE YOU EVER EXPERIENCED ONE OF THE ABOVE?
